Saraswat Vidyarthi Sahayak Mandali

The Mandali owes its origin to the keen sense of service and co-operation, enriched by a small band of far sighted men, in the community, conceived the idea to start an Institution to help the needy and deserving students of either sex-irrespective of sub-sections, to enter the portals of learning, individual charity and benevolence, not always easy to find and often embarrassing to accept, was to be mobilized through an Institution- the Mandali. An idea conceived in 1902- received generous support of the community to fulfill its ideas, and hope the philanthropic minded members of the community will come forward and extend their full-fledged support.
The Mandali today has come to be justifiably recognized as one of the premier institutions of its kind. The Mandali concentrates its efforts, according to its Aims and Objects, mainly on granting Scholarships to both the boys and girls of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin Community (comprising all sub-sections) from all states to prosecute their Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary and Collegiate Education.
The career of the Mandali for more than HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN Years adores a tale of selfless devotion of a chain of workers, of success and glory of its students in studies and in later life and benevolence and generosity of the Saraswat community or looked back.In the First year it gave a scholarship of Rs.75/- and had 65 members on its roll. During the period of hundred & thirteen years Rs.2,34,59,158/- were disbursed by way of scholarships .The Permanent fund of the Mandali today stands of Rs.2,43,52,701/- with 4405 members on its role.
ENDOWMENT PRIZES:
From the interest which is earned on Memorial Funds, Special Prizes and Scholarships are awarded annually to boys and girls of the Community, ranking high in subjects at the S.S.C. and H.S.C.Exam held by the Mumbai, Pune divisional Boards and few other exams and to Medical and Engineering Students and for proficiency in Sports as well. The annual disbursement of Prizes comes to Rs.1,36,661/-
The Silver Jubilee of the Mandali was celebrated on 15th January 1928 when Rt. Hon. Justice G.D.Mandaonkar presided over the function.
Hon.Dr. Mukundrao alias Babasaheb Jaykar presided over the Golden Jubilee Function held at St.Xaviers College half on pt February 1953.
The Diamond Jubilee on 11th May 1962 was celebrated by taking up the Project of students Hotstel at Borivali (West), Mumbai-400 092. on the plot of land donated by Shri Madhukarrao Balwant Madgaonkar. The Diamond Jubilee Committee was formed which raised funds for the construction of the Hostel Building.
CENTENERY CELEBRATION 2002
The Mandali completed in 113 years on 11th May 2002.
On 28th December 2002, a grand celebration was successfu lly held at Karnataka Sangh Hall at Matunga amongst the distingushied gathering of community of Members. Dr.Ramakant Deshpande was the chief guest and Shri Jitendra Deshprabhu, M.L.A. Goa Assembly was the Guest of Honour.
LOAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Mandali has intended Loan Scholarship scheme for the deserving, needy student,s prosecuting their post graduation students Scheme has been formulated. Details of the Scheme will be available from the office.
The Permanent fund of the Mandali consists of Membership fees, Memorial Funds, Prize Memorial Funds or donations to Permanent Fund.
The work of the Mandali so far is a PROMISE and a FLEDGE for the future-a-promise to all the needy and deserving students of the community that they can obtain the education, they desire and deserve, and the pledge to the community for further service and rededication in the cause of Learning.
In all this the Mandali counts on the generous financial support of the community to give and secure donations-big and small.
We have given in brief, the work done by the Mandali and look forward to you for generous donations to carry its noble work ahead. We are sure you will not fail in your concern to the Mandali.
